Kender Ring of Protection from Boredom
donated by Standback
Description: This ring is made of gold. It's exact appearence keeps
changing, and no-one is sure quite how it looks, because it
never looks the same way twice.
History: Once a mage was traveling with a kender. The mage was fond
of the kender, but he was sick of the kender always "borrowing"
his spell components. He thought to himself one day, "That
kender might really hurt himself with my powerful, magical
things. But I'd better put a stop to it anyway." So, the mage
created a ring which altered reality in such a way that the kender
wearing this ring would never go through the same experience
twice. He then made sure he had nothing valuable in his
pouches, and approched the kender with the ring. His pouches
were shortly empty, but the mage was happy. It worked, too:
the kender never stole anything worthless from the mage again.
This has been passed from kender to kender for years.
How it Works: As stated, the ring causes reality to change so that the same
thing will never happen to the kender twice. This can present a
problem or two, such as that the kender could never eat, say,
Otik's spiced potatoes at the Inn of the Last Home more then
once, but it does (kind of) prevent the kender from boredom,
and so is considered a blessing to those surrounding the
kender. |
