The Green Crystal Hoopak
donated by Jorin Thistleknott

Description:
The Green Crystal Hoopak normally appears as an unremarkable wooden hoopak, notable only for the large green feather tied to it by a length of string. However, when any of it's abilities are used (or a powerful spell of dispel magic is cast) this facade drops, and the hoopak is revealed to be made of unbreakable translucent green crystal. A faint light appears to come from within the crystal, but someone looking at it is unable to pinpoint the source. After about a minute, the crystal begins to fade back to it's original form.

History: Of the last visions of the prophet god Zivilyn, none were more frightening than those of the great red dragon Malystryx utterly destroying Kendermore. The last action of Zivilyn before fleeing into the beyond was to draw his cousin Habbukuk out of the battle with Chaos, and show him the vision of the devastation of Kendermore, and the appalling affliction that plagued the survivors. Shocked by this terrible reality, Habbakuk, much as Mishkal had done so many years before, smote a shard off of his great crystal throne, a shard in the shape of a hoopak. Even as the final howl of defeat raced across the Abyss, Habbakuk hurled the crystal Hoopak to Krynn. The artifact floated silently around Krynn for days, seeking a suitable place to land. Finally, it settled down on the Tomb of Heroes, on the carving of a hoopak above the name of the great Kender legend, Tasslehoff Burrfoot. There it remained for decades, undisturbed but for the air moving around it as thousands of people paid homage to the long dead heroes. However, one day...

How it Works: The hoopak has the ability to cure light wounds in anyone it touches, to make the user invisible, and to randomly teleport the user out of danger. However, as none of these is the focus of the artifact, each can be used only once a day. The main ability of this artifact is that, by methods yet unknown, it has the power to cure affliction in kender. An afflicted Kender touched by the Hoopak immediately falls into a deep sleep, from which they will awaken only after several days. During this time, there is a good chance (and this is important: only half the time it will work) that the underlying psyche of the Kender will re-assert itself and the kender will be afflicted no more. However, if it does not work, the experience will only stir painful memories, temporarily worsening the affliction. Worse yet, any kender only has a single chance, and if they are not cured, can never use this ability of the hoopak again.
